When I was a younger girl, about 14 at the time, I grew tired of being shown suitors that were all rich males with the same air akin to that of Dallerus. Supremacy and an air that they were above me, me just being a woman to extend their hand to so they may share my wealth.
One day, I thought it would be a nice idea to visit the town nearby and go for a couple of goods in town. The goods weren't all as I wanted, considering I was indeed pampered by those of the rich man's, but there was one place that did stick out.

I visited a bakery in that town, run by a father and his daughter....

I had to suppress my feelings though, as I knew I was still bound by the duties of the house Charlevet.

But....still, I couldn't forget her. Every week, on Friday morning, I visited town to pick up some of her delicious potato bread and an assortment of treats.
Each of those Fridays like a dream I wish would never end....

I tried to be a bit gentle about revealing my feelings to her. Night after night, I couldn't stop but think about how it would go if I had told her how I felt...

As the weeks went by, I tried to make things a little more obvious, paying her additional for her goods...complementing the way she dressed and looked each time...I think on a couple of occasions, I couldn't help but gaze for an unknown bout of time.

I don't think she ever noticed though. None of the little hints I gave her. Towards December, I invited her to my residence and showed her my garden.
*she smiles a little bit and giggles weakly* She...told me that day that I was as beautiful as the roses and flowers I planted in my garden.

So I asked, "Have you ever wondered why they always associate girls with flowers?"
And she responded, "From their relation to beauty, is that right? It's an appreciation, a comparison and a meaningful metaphor"


"You wouldn't mind taking flowers from a girl, then would you?"

...and I plucked a couple of roses from the garden and gave them to her, then I told her "If flowers are an appreciation, you deserve only the most beautiful of them all." She was speechless, and her cheeks went as red as the roses she held in her very hands.

Thus, I asked her if she wanted to live with me. I'd take my chauffeur and move away to my other home, and we'd, in the future, be able to live together happily.

As luck would have it, my fantasy world fell apart in front of me. I guess I sealed my fate with the wrong choice of words.
Apparently, she wasn't too fond of the idea of spending her life with another female. Additionally, I tried to convince her that I could make things so much easier on her family if we were together. I had heard a couple of times that despite the extra revenue I had given them, they were still entering times of financial trouble.
She scolded me.
Her voice that was of the beautiful symphony had turned into a blistering cacophony of malice and disbelief as she rendered my resolve for her to shreds. She exclaimed that her family did not need pity, babysitting, and any help from that of a spoiled rich person who would have little understanding of how a lower class family would have to struggle.

*She starts to tear up a little, slightly sobbing*
She sliced through me with words that claimed me to be someone born without sense and given everything I had, thus not being able to comprehend the issues faced by those less fortunate. I was maimed by claims of being arrogant...*sob*...being no different from all the other aristocrats who could never come close to understanding.

And...*soob*...and....I watched as she threw down the very rose I picked for her...as she stepped upon it and tore apart all the life from the flower in an angry barrage of stomps....

And she stormed off...the next day, her bakery was closed down, no sign of anyone having lived there anymore. No more delicious potato bread, no more being able to see her beautiful face and her melodious voice.

*She lays against the tree and sets her pole down, then wipes the tears from her eye*

*He sits there, looking at her somewhat dumbfoundedly and unsure of what to tell her*

That certainly wasn't something I expected...I...I don't think that was just. I'm sorry...*he puts down his pole and goes over to her, giving her a hug*

I...I'll be alright. *She leans into him and slowly ceases to cry*

I hope....I hope I don't have to go though that once more. Love is such a double edged sword...it hurts on both ends. Not being able to love and not being able to be loved....*sighs*

I'm sure, when you get back, there'll be someone in your new life waiting to love you. If you're lucky, it may even be in this life too!
